Basco Logging Inc. has a rich history dating back to 1947, when it was originally established as Sabala Logging by a group of partners led by Boni Yraguen. This family-owned and operated business started with basic equipment and gradually adapted to industry changes over the decades. With innovations like cable logging and a focus on year-round work, Basco Logging expanded its operations significantly by the 1980s, employing up to 60 staff and running multiple yarder sides.
However, the logging industry's major changes in the early 1990s, particularly following legislative changes aimed at protecting wildlife habitats, prompted Basco to pivot its operations. The company diversified its offerings by transforming its logging road construction capabilities into a civil construction operation, while simultaneously modernizing its logging equipment to better manage the second growth timber being harvested.
The journey faced significant challenges with the untimely passing of key family members and serious accidents that necessitated a strategic shift. Following the passing of Nick Yraguen in 2015 and Juan's severe injury in 2022, Basco made the decision to phase out its logging operations. By October 2023, Basco Logging officially ceased logging, focusing on construction operations, which include land development projects for both commercial and residential clients in the Roseburg area.
Today, Basco Logging Inc. stands as a testament to resilience, adaptation, and family legacy in the logging industry. While the company transitions away from traditional logging, it continues to honor its heritage by delivering quality construction services, cementing its commitment to community and craftsmanship.
