Calumet Civil Contractors, Inc., originally established as Calumet Paving Co. in 1928 by George Verplank, has a rich history entrenched in the civil construction industry. Starting with the initial road project on State Road 6 in Gary, Indiana, the company has evolved significantly over the decades. During World War II, George sought better opportunities and relocated operations to Pennsylvania, transporting equipment across existing roadways. The company returned to Indiana in 1941, where it expanded with the involvement of Verplank's sons, Lawrence, Carl, and Glenn. Jerry Verplank, the grandson, began working with the company at a young age and, after gaining extensive experience, took over management in 1968 following the untimely passing of his father and uncle.
In 1999, Jerry retired and transferred leadership to a team of key employees, ensuring the company's longevity and stable transition. The company moved to its present location at 4898 Fieldstone Drive, Whitestown, Indiana in November 2007, marking the transition to its current name, Calumet Civil Contractors, Inc., reflecting its broad service offerings beyond asphalt paving.
Today, the company undertakes various civil construction and site development tasks, including asphalt paving, stone base placement, earthwork, sewer and underground utility installation, and concrete construction. They also provide innovative services such as vacuum truck rentals for cleanup operations.
Calumet Civil Contractors, Inc. prides itself on being a reliable partner for projects of all sizes, equipped with decades of experience and a commitment to excellence in civil construction.
