First Electric Cooperative Corporation (FECC) is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative established in 1937 under the Rural Electrification Act. It is recognized as the first electric cooperative in Arkansas, and it began energizing its first power lines in 1938. Today, First Electric serves over 103,000 member accounts across 18 counties in central and southeast Arkansas, and it is the second largest distribution cooperative in the state. Headquartered in Jacksonville, the cooperative operates multiple offices in Bryant, Heber Springs, Perryville, and Stuttgart. FECC maintains an extensive infrastructure with over 10,300 miles of distribution lines, more than 204,000 power poles, and 50 substations, ensuring reliable electricity to its predominantly residential membership which constitutes about 93% of its total accounts. As a member-focused cooperative, First Electric operates on a not-for-profit basis, returning capital credits to its members for their investment in the cooperative's services. In 2023 alone, they refunded $6.14 million in capital credits, contributing to a historical total of over $146.3 million since the practice's inception in the 1940s.
