J&D Rack Co. is a prominent family-owned business that has been delivering site development and excavation services for over 90 years, primarily serving the tri-state area. Founded in 1932 by Vince Rack, the company began as a modest family operation utilizing simple tools and mules to dig basements and foundations in Monfort Heights. Vince Rack’s dedication to his craft came to a pause when he enlisted as a Combat Engineer during World War II. Upon his return in 1946, he transformed his veteran status into an opportunity to acquire surplus military excavation equipment, thus expanding the business into comprehensive site development, which included home and later, commercial building.
Over the years, J&D Rack has evolved into a multi-generational enterprise. With the help of his seven children, Vince developed numerous residential projects, paving the way for the company's growth into apartment complexes and shopping centers. By the 1980s, all of Vince's children took active roles in the company, and by 1990, they had all become partial owners. The transition from V & G Rack to J&D Rack Co., Inc. marked a new era under a leadership team that included many of the grandchildren, further solidifying the company's legacy as a family-run establishment.
Today, J&D Rack Co. continues to flourish under the stewardship of the Rack family, maintaining a commitment to quality service and community enrichment. With strong ties to its historical roots and a vision for the future, the company remains a significant player in the excavation and development sector.
