Description

Founded in 1969 in Oak Harbor, Washington, New Leaf, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. The organization was established by a group of parents who aimed to create meaningful work for their developmentally disabled adult children. Over the decades, New Leaf has grown significantly and earned its reputation for delivering high-quality services, including grounds maintenance and janitorial services, particularly at the Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI).

In 1973, New Leaf secured the first-ever federal service contract under the Javits-Wagner-O'Day Act (now known as AbilityOne), marking a historic milestone as a pioneer in employing individuals with disabilities in government contracts. Today, New Leaf holds the oldest active federal service contract under the AbilityOne program, maintaining operations across over 500 acres and serving numerous contracts with various federal agencies.

Currently, New Leaf employs over 100 individuals and offers a range of services, including grounds maintenance, custodial services, and commissary operations, while dedicating itself to the principle of promoting independence and quality of life for its employees.

New Leaf prioritizes creating an inclusive environment where employees can advocate for themselves and grow personally and professionally. The organization provides a comprehensive benefits package, including health benefits, paid leave, life insurance, and a retirement plan, to support the wellbeing of its workforce.

With a vision of preparing the community to welcome people with disabilities and those exiting public assistance as valuable contributors, New Leaf continues to exemplify its commitment to advocacy, diversity, and empowerment within the workplace, ensuring that all employees have the opportunity to thrive.
