Founded in 1924, North Star Mechanical LLC has a rich history rooted in quality service and family values. Initially a small part of North Star Hardware, established by Leo Stammen and Leonard Grilliot, the company has evolved significantly over the decades. Starting as a tin shop dealing primarily in plumbing supplies, it quickly expanded to include a variety of agricultural and hardware products, which were integral to its early success.
Throughout the 1930s and 1940s, the business saw the involvement of more family members, enhancing its operational strength. In 1952, a family member, Al Hemmelgarn, took over the plumbing division, paving the way for the specialization of services. As the company continued to grow, it ventured into propane services and later distinguished itself further by founding North Star Plumbing, Heating, and Cooling.
In 1990, under the leadership of Al Hemmelgarn and his sons, the plumbing division blossomed into its own entity while continuing to operate out of the original hardware store. By 2012, due to increasing demand and business growth, North Star Mechanical moved to a new and larger facility, all while staying true to its commitment to excellence. Today, the company prides itself on delivering exceptional plumbing, heating, cooling, and geothermal services, retaining the dedication that has characterized its service for nearly a century.
