Founded in 1967 by Nelson Bogaard, Pella Concrete Contractors, Inc. started as a modest two-person operation utilizing a pickup truck, homemade trailer, and a used Bobcat skid loader. The company initially focused on pouring residential concrete for local home builders, including basement floors, driveways, garage floors, patios, and sidewalks. As the business grew, it began to expand its services to include small commercial projects and agricultural work, such as feeding floors and pole barn floors.
By the mid-to-late 1970s, Pella Concrete Contractors incorporated aluminum wall forms, which enabled them to construct concrete basements for their early clients. Additional equipment such as a backhoe and dump truck allowed the company to further diversify its capabilities. As operations expanded, the workforce grew, ensuring that multiple projects could be executed simultaneously. Nelson’s sons, Randy and Mike, joined the company after finishing high school and later became co-owners, bringing valuable skills in project supervision.
Today, Pella Concrete is capable of handling a variety of concrete projects across commercial, industrial, agricultural, and residential sectors. The workforce can exceed 25 employees during peak seasons, reflecting the company's strong growth. In 2005, Pella Concrete moved to a new facility just north of Pella, which enhanced their operational capabilities and allowed better maintenance of their fleet.
