Prairie Energy Cooperative (PECO), based in Clarion, Iowa, is a member-owned, not-for-profit rural electric distribution cooperative dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and affordable electricity to over 4,100 member-owners throughout north-central Iowa. With approximately 2,076 miles of electric lines spanning 11 counties, PECO plays a crucial role in powering homes, farms, and businesses in the region. As an organization governed by its member-owners, PECO is managed by a board of directors elected from among the cooperative’s members, ensuring that the cooperative remains focused on the needs and interests of the local community.
The cooperative supports its members with various services, including energy savings programs, rebates on energy-efficient appliances, and educational resources to promote energy awareness. Prairie Energy is also committed to community engagement, participating in local events and initiatives, as well as providing scholarships for local youth and supporting economic development within its service area.
