Pyramid Marble Tile and Masonry (Pyramid MTM) has a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1928 by skilled tile setters Philip Dannenfelzer and Jack Morey. Originating during the Great Depression, they prioritized quality craftsmanship and hard work, which laid a strong foundation for what would become the oldest continuing tile contractor in California. As the company grew, Douglas Johnston joined as a partner, bringing vital accounting skills that solidified its financial standing.
In the mid-20th century, Pyramid MTM expanded its operations by relocating to its current property in Santa Barbara, and by 1958, it was officially incorporated. Over the decades, leadership transitioned through generations and dedicated individuals, including Philip's son, Fred Dannenfelzer, and later, Michael Crookston, who introduced new energy and vision. Under his guidance, the company doubled its size within two years and broadened its services to include masonry alongside tile and marble.
In the later years, long-term employees, David Kephart and Cary Hitsman, stepped in to carry on the tradition after Michael’s departure in 2012. With over 25 years of experience with the company, they maintained its commitment to high-quality work and employee welfare. Today, Pyramid MTM employs a dedicated workforce, many of whom have progressed through the ranks of the trades, showcasing pride in their workmanship.
