Safeway Sign Company (SSC) was established in 1948 by Forrest O. Moore in Inglewood, California, in response to the growing need for effective traffic symbols and markings due to increasing vehicle traffic. Combining his expertise in the transportation sector with marketing knowledge, Moore founded SSC to manufacture reflective signs and identify agencies that could benefit from these products.
By the late 1950s, SSC outgrew its initial location, leading to the introduction of the Annual Sign Contract format, which significantly boosted revenues. To accommodate this growth, Moore’s youngest son, David, managed the construction of an 8,000 square foot manufacturing facility in Gardena, California. By the end of 1962, the new facility was in full operation.
As the company continued to thrive, David gradually passed on responsibilities to the next generation, notably to his son, Michael F. Moore. Under Michael's leadership, SSC moved to a larger, modern manufacturing headquarters spanning 60,000 square feet in Adelanto, California in 1990, which has since contributed to the company’s sustained growth.
Today, Safeway Sign Company is recognized as an industry leader, renowned for its commitment to quality manufacturing and exceptional service.
