The Canvas Company Inc. is a specialized marine canvas service founded in 2008 by lifelong sailing enthusiasts Becky Pattinson and Mike McWilliams. With a combined experience of several decades in the marine industry, the founders have a deep understanding of the unique needs of sailors and boat owners. Becky, a professional licensed engineer and graduate of the University of Michigan, has over 20 years of experience in engineering, coupled with practical experience in various roles on the water, including that of a diving instructor and deckhand. Mike brings extensive sailing experience, having raced sailboats for 35 years and furthering his expertise through hands-on work in sail making.
The company's journey began at Key West Race Week, where Becky and Mike met and later returned to Fort Lauderdale, where they initiated Florida Canvas inside the North Sails loft. Their passion for sailing and the marine industry ultimately led them to establish The Canvas Company after moving to Interlochen, Michigan.
Today, The Canvas Company operates out of a modern 6,700-square-foot facility and employs a dedicated team of seven focused on delivering high-quality marine canvas products and services. They specialize in custom boat covers, upholstery, flooring, and other marine necessities tailored to meet the needs of their clients. The commitment of The Canvas Company to provide exceptional craftsmanship, combined with their extensive industry background, positions them as experts in the marine canvas sector, catering to both local and wider boating communities.
