West River Telecommunications Cooperative (WRT) has been a cornerstone of connectivity in the Dakotas since its inception in 1952. Originally established by local farmers who came together to improve access to telephone services in rural North Dakota, WRT has evolved with technological advancements to offer a comprehensive suite of services that include internet, voice, security, and streaming TV. The cooperative began its journey with a grassroots effort, gathering community support to serve the over 4,000 residents lacking phone service at that time. Over the decades, WRT has continuously upgraded its infrastructure, adapting to the changing landscape of communication technologies. This includes transitioning from basic voice services to incorporating cellular, satellite TV, and high-speed internet capabilities, enhancing connectivity for its members significantly.
